Transportation & Logistics Consulting

Practical operating support for trucking companies, freight brokerages, fleet operators, and logistics businesses that need a clearer understanding of performance—and leadership to act on it.

Who We Work With

Operating Clarity for Owners & Leadership Teams

We work with business owners and leadership teams facing operating complexity, margin pressure, growth, or a transition. The focus is on how the business actually runs: its people, customers, equipment, daily decisions, and financial performance.

  • Revenue is growing, but operating contribution and cash generation are not keeping pace.
  • Pricing, service commitments, and the cost to serve customers are not clearly connected.
  • Fleet utilization, maintenance, dispatch, or staffing problems are disrupting execution.
  • Different locations or service lines lack consistent reporting and operating accountability.

Operating Focus

Connect Operating Decisions to Business Performance

Trucking & Fleet Operations

Review dispatch and operating workflows, equipment utilization, maintenance discipline, driver and management staffing, and service execution. Connect asset decisions to the demands of the operation rather than treating fleet size as a measure of success.

Brokerage & Customer Performance

Examine pricing, customer mix, service commitments, carrier coordination, and operating workflow. Identify where commercial decisions create avoidable cost, inconsistent service, or pressure on margins.

Profitability & Financial Discipline

Evaluate the P&L alongside operating data: pricing, cost structure, asset utilization, working capital, and cash generation. Establish useful measures and priorities without promising a predetermined financial outcome.

Leadership & Execution

Clarify responsibilities, strengthen management cadence, and assign ownership of operating priorities. Support stabilization, business transitions, or M&A integration where stronger day-to-day leadership is needed.

Founder-Led Operating Perspective

22 Years of Operating Experience

Jeff Hollenbeck brings hands-on operating experience and executive leadership across transportation, industrial, and asset-based operations. His documented background includes trucking, logistics, warehousing, brokerage, fleet maintenance, and complex multi-location operations.

His prior responsibilities include senior executive leadership within a nine-figure operating platform and multi-unit P&L responsibility across eight-figure business units. That experience informs the work; it describes prior operating responsibility, not Nellis Holdings’ current company size or a record of completed consulting engagements.

Based in Erie, Pennsylvania, Nellis Holdings provides operational consulting, fractional COO, and interim executive leadership services nationally. Onsite engagements are available, with travel, scope, and availability agreed in advance.

Engagement Structure

Scope the Need. Agree the Responsibilities.

An engagement can begin with a focused transportation operations assessment, continue with implementation support, or include fractional COO or interim leadership. Scope, access to information, onsite time, deliverables, fees, and responsibilities are agreed in writing before work begins. The structure follows the business problem—not a standard package.

From Assessment to Action

  1. 01

    Understand the Operation

Discuss the owner's priorities, review relevant financial and operating information, and speak with the people responsible for execution. Onsite observation can help distinguish reported performance from everyday operating conditions.

  2. 02

    Prioritize the Work

Identify operating constraints, assess their business implications, and agree a practical sequence of actions. Define what will be measured and who is responsible for each priority.

  3. 03

    Support Execution

Work with the leadership team on agreed changes, review progress, and adjust priorities as the facts develop. Implementation support is scoped separately where appropriate.

Common Questions

Before We Start

What does a transportation operations assessment include?

The scope depends on the business and the question being addressed. It can include P&L and operating-data review, pricing and customer profitability, fleet utilization, maintenance, dispatch workflow, staffing, reporting, and management accountability. Discussions with leadership and onsite observation can help connect the numbers to operating conditions. Findings are organized into practical priorities, not a guaranteed savings estimate.

Does Nellis Holdings provide onsite consulting nationally?

Yes. Nellis Holdings is based in Erie, Pennsylvania and provides operational consulting nationally, including onsite engagements. Travel, time onsite, access to locations, and the balance of onsite and remote work are agreed during scoping, subject to engagement fit and availability.

Do you work with trucking companies, freight brokerages, and fleet operators?

These businesses are within the transportation and logistics focus. Jeff Hollenbeck's documented background includes trucking, brokerage, warehousing, fleet maintenance, and specialized transportation. Engagement fit depends on the operating issues, information available, and leadership support for the work.

How are consulting engagements structured?

Work can be scoped as an assessment, a defined operating project, or ongoing implementation support. Where the need is active leadership rather than advice alone, fractional COO or interim leadership may be appropriate. Objectives, responsibilities, expected deliverables, fees, and timing are agreed in writing; there is no assumed standard duration or promised result.

Is this service separate from transportation litigation support?

Yes. Operational consulting addresses business performance and execution for owners and leadership teams. Transportation litigation support provides operating perspective for counsel and is described separately on the Advisory Services page. Nellis Holdings does not provide legal advice or legal conclusions.
